Tenant Doctors run their own individual practices from our purpose-built facility and we are proud to support them through the provision of administrative support, practice infrastructure and equipment that enables them to deliver the highest standard of medical care.

Dr Joe Tempone

Dr Tempone was born in Italy and migrated to Australia at the age of 2 years in 1962, growing up in Melbourne. He completed a science degree (with honors) there before transferring to Tas Uni where he studied Medicine, graduating in 1985. Following his internship at the LGH and 2 more years in the Family Medicine Program in Victoria, he returned to settle in Launceston and joined the Summerdale Medical Practice in 1989.
Dr Tempone is an experienced GP with interest in all areas and all age groups. He has developed special skills in Musculoskeletal medicine, skin surgery, Mirena/Implanon insertion and Sclerotherapy. He has been committed to promoting quality General Practice through involvement in General Practice training organisations, GP Divisions and the AMA for over 30 years.
His hobbies are family, gardening, Yoga and keeping fit. He recently stepped down from his Director and Chairman roles on the Board of locally based charity, Care for Africa.
Dr Tempone is happy to communicate in Italian with those Italian patients not comfortable explaining their problems in English.

Dr Diane Hintum

Dr Diane Hintum has been part of the Summerdale Medical Practice team since 2004. She graduated medical school at the University of Tasmania achieving MBBS with honours in 1999. Completing internship and residency at the Launceston General Hospital she entered into General Practice training and became a Specialist General Practitioner in 2005. She is a current member of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners.
Dr Hintum enjoys the breadth and range of general practice, including women’s health, antenatal care, child health and development, immunization, aged care, chronic disease management, preventative health, performing minor procedures, acute medical care, and teaching new trainees their craft. Her patients range in age from newborns to 101 years old.
Dr Hintum was convenor of the Australian Medical Students Association Convention in Hobart, has been a board member for General Practice Training in Tasmania, is a supervisor of GP registrars, has been an examiner for the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners and is a partner in the Summerdale Medical Practice.
She balances her work as a GP with family life, enjoying many outdoor activities with them, including mountain biking, bushwalking, swimming, going to the beach, walking the dogs, and gardening.

Dr. Donald Rose

Dr Rose was born in Devonport, obtained his medical degree from the University of Tasmania then spent some years working in the LGH before entering general practice in the 1980s. After a series of hospital and community locums on the north west coast of Tasmania he worked in rural general practice in Circular Head where he remained for a decade. During this period he helped establish the Smithton Medical Centre and worked as a visiting medical officer to the Smithton District Hospital. In the mid-90s Dr Rose joined the Summerdale Medical Practice and has assisted with its growth to be one of the largest teaching practices in the State as well as one of the main providers of medical services to aged care facilities in northern Tasmania.
Currently Dr Rose is a member of Primary Health Tasmania’s Clinical Advisory Council and does some part time tutoring for the University of Tasmania. Dr Rose strongly supports full service general practice able to provide followup and continuity of care 7 days a week.
The majority of Dr Rose’s time is spent managing aged patients and patients with complex medical problems. He is currently not able to take on the care of new patients.

Dr Nathan Lucas

Dr Nathan Lucas was born and raised in Launceston. He graduated from University of Tasmania in 2010, earning a Clinical Distinction Award. After spending time at Launceston General Hospital and in General Practice, he joined Summerdale Medical Practice as a registrar in 2014. He attained Fellowship of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners in 2015, became an accredited GP Supervisor for General Practice Training Tasmania in 2019, and became a partner at Summerdale Medical Practice in 2020.
Dr Lucas practices in all aspects of General Practice, taking a special interest in child and adolescent health as well as skin health. When not at work he enjoys cooking, reading, learning to play the guitar, and spending time with his young family.

Dr Anne Wilson

Dr Anne Wilson was born in Launceston and grew up in Hobart. She graduated with a medical degree from the University of Tasmania in 1981 and worked as an Intern and Resident Medical Officer at the Launceston General Hospital (LGH) 1982-1983. Dr Wilson worked in the Latrobe, Burnie and Devonport hospitals in the northwest of Tasmania while obtaining her Diploma of Obstetrics (DRANZCOG).
Dr Wilson moved to Circular Head in 1985 and became a founding GP of the Smithton Medical Centre. She worked full time in general practice in Smithton (as well as in an outreach practice in Stanley) for 10 years along with her GP husband while raising their four young sons. During this time she was a visiting medical officer at Smithton Hospital and practiced GP Obstetrics having the privilege of caring for women before, during and after their pregnancies as well as delivering their babies.
Dr Wilson’s interest in pregnancy care continued when she joined Summerdale Medical in 1996 and she was the Chair of the Maternity Shared Care Collaborative Group at LGH for over 20 years until the group was dissolved in 2019. She is the editor of the GP Pregnancy Care Pregnancy Record (‘the pink book’) which is a resource and record booklet used by GPs, Obstetricians and patients in northern Tasmania.
Dr Wilson also has a keen interest in vaccination and has been a medical representative member of the National Immunisation Committee since 2015. Dr Wilson was a board member of the Division of General Practice North for a number of years before the introduction of Medicare Locals. She joined the General Practice North Committee again in 2018 and is the current Chair. Other representative roles include Federal Australian Medical Association (AMA) Council of General Practice 2012-2020 and AMA Tasmania State Council 2011 to present day. In August 2020 Dr Wilson was inducted into the AMA Roll of Fellows in recognition of her ‘outstanding contribution to medicine, the medical profession and the AMA’.
Dr Wilson’s role at Summerdale Medical has changed in recent years from booked sessional work to working in the treatment area of the surgery in a flexible locum type role increasing her working hours depending on patient demand and surgery workload. She is passionate about traditional family general practice ‘cradle to grave’ comprehensive continuity of primary care for all patients in our community and hopes to inspire young GP trainees similarly.

Dr Johnson is a returning general practitioners at the Summerdale Medical Practice, starting here in 2016. His special interests include children’s and men’s health, and minor surgeries, however, he is happy to see all aspects of general practice. Dr Johnson enjoys sport, golf in particular, and travelling.

Dr Katherine Moore was born and raised in Launceston. She studied a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery at the University of Tasmania, graduating with honours in 2010 and was also awarded the Clinical Prize in Gynaecology.
Dr Moore worked at the Launceston General Hospital from 2011-2013, completing a Diploma of Obstetrics and Gynaecology during this time. She commenced General Practice training in 2014 and began at Summerdale Medical in 2015 where she remained until 2018 when she went on maternity leave. She achieved Fellowship of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners in 2016 and was awarded the RACGP Tasmanian Examination Medal for best performance in the 2015 Fellowship Examinations.
Dr Moore has been working part time at Family Planning Tasmania since 2015 focusing on women’s health, her area of interest. She has attained a Certificate of Sexual and Reproductive Health.
Dr Moore returned to the practice in 2021 to assist with vaccination clinics and as of 2022 is now pleased to offer a Women’s Health Clinic at Summerdale Medical.
In her spare time Dr Moore enjoys bushwalking, fishing and spending time with her young family.

Dr Keira Nair completed her medical degree through the University of Tasmania in 2015, she spent 5 years working with various units at the Royal Hobart Hospital before completing her General Practitioner training in 2022, she has been part of the Summerdale Medical Practice team since 2021.
Keira is a dedicated and compassionate General Practitioner committed to providing comprehensive and personalised healthcare to individuals and families. With a strong focus on preventive care and patient-centered approach, Keira strives to build trusting relationships with her patients and support them in achieving optimal health and well-being. Keira is passionate about empowering her patients with knowledge and resources to take charge of their health and live their best lives.
Dr Keira enjoys balancing her GP work with her sense of adventure for local and international travel, spending time with her family and friends, cooking up a storm and taking her dog to the park.

I really enjoy skin cancer medicine as it is a fascinating field which allows me to put my previous surgical training to great use and serve the community. Outside of medicine I enjoy being outdoors, music and cars.
Dr Lu is a fellow of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners and is a member of the Skin Cancer College Australasia where he regularly undertakes professional development courses to further his knowledge and skills.
Dr Lu runs the skin cancer clinic at Summerdale Medical on Mondays where he offers skin cancer risk management which includes full skin checks, mole monitoring and skin lesion excision procedures

Dr Sam Atkins was born and raised in Tasmania and worked as a Pharmacist and Air Force Officer prior to studying medicine at the University of Newcastle in New South Wales. He completed his residency at the Launceston General Hospital before beginning training as a General Practice Registrar
Sam is excited to engage with all areas of medicine and General Practice and has a particular interest in mental health.

Dr. Alan Tam, born in Canada, spent a significant portion of his early life in Hong Kong. He is fluent in both English and Cantonese.
Dr. Tam graduated from the University of Toronto in 2009. He later moved to Australia, where he earned his medical degree from the University of Queensland in 2013. Since then, Dr. Tam has been committed to providing compassionate care to the Launceston community.
His experience at the Launceston General Hospital includes serving as a registrar in the intensive care unit and the aero-medical retrieval service. Dr. Tam completed his GP training in Echuca Moama in 2021. This experience provided him with valuable insights into rural healthcare challenges.
Outside of work, he enjoys traveling and spending time with his partner
