Many illnesses can be prevented or detected early by regular checks with your Doctor and the use of simple screening tests. Some preventative checkups such as cervical smears and diabetes are scheduled regularly and you will be sent a reminder when these checks are due. If you do not want these reminders please advise the reception staff.
Summerdale Medical Practice uses the following guidelines for check ups:
General checks: Should be performed at 2 weeks (optional), 6 weeks, 12 months and 18 months to check for such problems as feeding problems, squints, hip dislocations and slow development. A detailed 4 year old check is also
now recommended and funded through a specific Medicare rebate – healthy kid check
Immunisations: All Government funded immunisations are available. The schedule changes regularly and your Doctor will keep you informed of changes. You can check your child’s status by phoning 1800 653 809. Please note Tetanus boosters are also available when required.
